>Happy 5 Monthday, Holden!

NicknamesTW, TroubleYou, BooBoo, santaholden
Temperament: You are so loving and affectionate! You kind of give “kisses” now [in your own way]. You snuggle into me and reach for me [makes me so happy]. You are funny too…you crack Dad & I up every day [for example, you were making fart noises into my elbow over and over again last week and I was crying laughing so hard].
Things I Could Do Without: This past week you’ve had 3 MAJOR blowouts. In store parking lots. Ew. You’ve been pretty amazing these last few weeks so I’m having a hard time thinking of things I don’t like right now! You are such a good baby.
Item/Toy We Love The Most: Any stuffed animal. You’ve started to hug them, chew on them, smile at them. It’s adorable. [see previous post for picture]
Item/Toy You Love The Most: Your crib piano. You will stay in your crib for 30+ minutes in the morning just kicking it and listening to the music. Thanks for giving Mom and extra 30 minutes rest some mornings! It helps!
Things I’m Loving Most Right Now: You are wonderful in your car seat and stroller!! HALLELUJAH! I took you on a walk in the Joovy yesterday and you loved it. Finally I can use our amazing stroller [thanks RTR]! I’m loving you reaching for me. You really do know I’m your momma now.  You have the adorable gummy smile now.
Things You’re Loving Most Right Now: You know, I’m reading from last month and you love the same things but times a million now. You loved the bath before but now you are a wild man in there! You splash, kick, squeal, get water all over mommy’s glasses. I loved bath time before but seeing you in there now is way funner! “Rockabye Baby” is the song that calms you down most when you’re upset still. You can stand for a really long time!

Milestones: You can sit up on your own for a bit if you’re on my lap. You tried rice cereal for the first time this month. We bought your first pair of Chucks yesterday! And your first bow tie. You’re basically a stud.

We didn’t end up going to Rosa’s for your birthday because we lost a great man yesterday, your Great Grandpa. I’m glad you got to meet him. He was such a loving man. He loved babies and I know you brought a lot of joy into his life when you visited him. He was always there for people – always serving someone. He was such a hard worker and dedicated to his family. I hope you inherit those traits from him. It’s times like these that the Gospel brings us the comfort that we need: that he’s in a better place, that he’s free from pain, that he’s with Heavenly Father, and that we’ll see him again because we are all sealed together as a family. He’s probably up in heaven watching WWF on a recliner 🙂 We love you, Grandpa.

>The Gratitude Challenge: Day Five

Day five:
I’m grateful for the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

The Gospel changed my life. There is no way that I would be the person I am today or have the things I have today without it. The Gospel has blessed my life in ways I never could have imagined. It has helped me become a better wife, sister, daughter, friend, and most recently, mother. I love my Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. I know they love me. I have faith that I will live with them again one day. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. I’m thankful for the temple. I love its beauty and the peace I feel when I’m there. I’m grateful that I get to be with Allan, Holden, and our future children forever. I’m grateful to have the Holy Ghost with me to guide me and that Heavenly Father answers my prayers. I love that I’m never alone even though I may feel like it sometimes.

>Lazy Sunday

>I love Sundays! They are the most enjoyable day of the week, in my opinion. The Sabbath (to me) means worshipping God and spending time with family. Today was stake conference which meant we got out of church at noon as opposed to 4:00 PM! Yay! That meant we got to come home and spend lots of time together. I gave Holden a bath, we did tummy time while Allan read a story to Holden, we napped. Nap time with Holden is the best:

{Together now: AWWWWWW}

{“Enough with the pictures, Mom!”}

{“The Giving Tree was his friend?!”}

{“So that’s what a tree looks like…”}

What a wonderful day. I would live days like this over and over again if I could…

Later this week: my experiences with cloth diapers.

Happy Sabbath!

>conference weekend…sort of

This weekend has been amazing so far. I’ve enjoyed {almost} every second of it. Last night Allan and I scheduled in some chillin’ time. No joke. We put ‘chillin’ on both of our iCalendars for last night. When did life get so busy that we have to schedule relaxing?! Ah, oh well. Better to be busy than not. Anyways, we played Mario, ate cake, and just spent time together. It was such a nice evening. I had to work some but I did it while nursing Holden so it didn’t cut into our chillin’ time. Moms can multi-task like no other. I was good at multi-tasking before but I have taken it to a whole other level. This morning we woke up and had a breakfast of champions. CAKE. What has my husband turned me into?! iPads AND cake for breakfast? I’m a monster!

Luckily the weather was on our side so we took Holden for a walk around 10:00. It was perfect jeans/t-shirt weather. Holden got to wear his super cute bear hat. {Allan was SO happy! He loves babies in hats.}

Holden now sits up {assisted}. His “reward” for pulling up is to chew on my finger. My mom says that’s not a great reward. Holden begs to differ, GiGi!

What a big boy! “Look, ma, one hand!”

We got back to the house and we were all excited to watch conference. We stream it from the internet every year and it works nearly glitch free every time. This year everyone was having problems. Our screen was just black. Others said they could hear the audio but no visual. We didn’t get either and we couldn’t go up to the Stake Center because Holden took a super long nap. So we missed out on both sessions after we skipped a fun activity to watch it. Urgh. It’s okay though because Allan and I decided we will listen to a few talks every Monday for FHE for the next few weeks. I love conference weekend. I really do. The speakers are truly inspired and I learn so much from them.

Casey and Joe came over for lunch. I made chicken parmigiana with spaghetti. It was YUM.

After our conference shenanigans I decided to go pick up a few things from the grocery store since we’re having the BIG bi-weekly family dinner at our house this week. We are having roast, potatoes, carrots, corn, biscuits, and Easy Apple Cake. I’m excited to try the dessert. I’ll let you know how it turns out! I get to the Prius to go shopping annnnd…my battery is dead. Apparently in my haste to get the groceries and baby out of the car yesterday (YES – I went yesterday, too) I forgot to close the trunk all the way. It all worked out though. I just took The Golden Bu and picked up some jumper cables while I was at Target. I know it sounds like kind of a crazy weekend but I have really enjoyed it.

Now Allan just needs to get back from Priesthood Session because Holden has been asleep since 7:45 and I’m kind of bored! Hope everyone had a great weekend!

By the way, I wanted to say HAPPY BIRTHDAY to my beautiful sister, Julie who turned 25 today! A quarter of a century old, not century!! 🙂

>Holden’s Blessing

We woke up and went through the normal routine – nursing, diaper change, bath time. It was actually a pretty relaxing morning. I even got to take a bath! Yay! Things got a little more frantic as we were approaching leaving time. Our goal was 12:00 noon (the blessing was at 1:00 PM twenty minutes away in Denton). My plan was to get to the church and have time to put him in what I like to call a “milk coma” before the blessing. It all worked out and we were right on schedule! What a miracle. There was one hiccup…my mommy brain completely forgot to dry clean his blessing outfit! How could I forget to do that with my ultra skin sensitive baby (another blog, another day)?! I felt terrible! But we had no other choice than to put him it. I figured it would be okay since it would only be about 30 minutes then we would change him right out of it. Boy was I wrong! His back/neck/stomach broke out and turned fire red, Poor little guy…I’m going to have to put on the hat of nurse mommy the next few days while his skin gets over these shenanigans. It was a beautiful day and we are just so thankful to have him in our lives! Holden looked like an angel. Not just “he looks so sweet” (although he did) but like a little spirit who was visiting us from heaven (see below).
