>where did the time go?

>I’ve been thinking this morning about how fast time has been flying lately. Everyone always says “They grow up too fast” but I never realized just how fast he would. It seems like time goes by especially fast during the holidays, doesn’t it? He’s about to be six months already! It really seems like a few weeks ago that we brought him home so perfect and tiny. Now he can almost sit up on his own, roll both ways, and loves talking.

[always loved that tongue]

[just a little guy]

[this was after a 6-hour cry fest. I don’t miss that :)]

Now look at my not so little guy!

[still loves that tongue]

I’ve gotta figure out a way to slow time down…

I just think this photo is hilarious and wanted to share!

This was when Holden was two days overdue [July 1, 2010]. He didn’t decide to come out until almost two weeks later. Thanks, buddy!

>baby’s first road trip

>As I said yesterday, we will be trekking to Midland this afternoon. This will be Holden’s first road trip and I’m scared because he just started liking his car seat. This might reverse it! Nooooooo! A friend suggested stopping every 90 minutes. I think that’s a good idea. It’s a long enough stretch of time that we will get there before the sun rises and short enough that we will have plenty of stops for nursing, diaper changes, to stretch our legs. Thanks for the tip, Stephanie! Does anyone else have tips for road tripping it with a little one?

What I don’t want:

What I do want:

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! The real test of patience will be Monday when [still not set in stone] Lori & I drive back with a 4-year-old, an almost 2-year-old, and a 5-month-old. Will we make it back with our sanity in tack? Stay tuned…

>baby’s first chucks

>This is a momentous occasion. We purchased Holden his first pair of baby chuck taylors. I’m in love.

Here he is showcasing those bad boys.

Here he is saying loud & proud “My Dad’s a Geek!”

We will be out in Midland for my Grandpa’s funeral this weekend. Blogging will be on the back burner so if I don’t hit my 100th post by Christmas…who cares! I’m still doing the giveaway!

>holden shopping

So I mentioned before that I have a holden shopping problem, right? Well this time it’s okay because I haven’t been able to think of things that I want for Christmas. I’ve been able to think of plenty of things I want to buy mr. h for Christmas. Perfect solution! Get the H man [too many nicknames in one post?] Christmas presents instead of me! Here is what I got:

I saw the Zzzoolight [the elephant lamp] in People magazine a few months ago and I’ve been wanting to get it ever since. I found all of these items here. It was either spend $20 on shipping or spend $20 more shopping and get free shipping. I chose the latter. That’s how they getcha! I love the items though. Isn’t the T-Rex Teether cute?

Merry Christmas to me!

-Little Wife Power House

PS Holden just rolled from his back to his stomach for me!! Proud momma moment!!!

>Happy 5 Monthday, Holden!

NicknamesTW, TroubleYou, BooBoo, santaholden
Temperament: You are so loving and affectionate! You kind of give “kisses” now [in your own way]. You snuggle into me and reach for me [makes me so happy]. You are funny too…you crack Dad & I up every day [for example, you were making fart noises into my elbow over and over again last week and I was crying laughing so hard].
Things I Could Do Without: This past week you’ve had 3 MAJOR blowouts. In store parking lots. Ew. You’ve been pretty amazing these last few weeks so I’m having a hard time thinking of things I don’t like right now! You are such a good baby.
Item/Toy We Love The Most: Any stuffed animal. You’ve started to hug them, chew on them, smile at them. It’s adorable. [see previous post for picture]
Item/Toy You Love The Most: Your crib piano. You will stay in your crib for 30+ minutes in the morning just kicking it and listening to the music. Thanks for giving Mom and extra 30 minutes rest some mornings! It helps!
Things I’m Loving Most Right Now: You are wonderful in your car seat and stroller!! HALLELUJAH! I took you on a walk in the Joovy yesterday and you loved it. Finally I can use our amazing stroller [thanks RTR]! I’m loving you reaching for me. You really do know I’m your momma now.  You have the adorable gummy smile now.
Things You’re Loving Most Right Now: You know, I’m reading from last month and you love the same things but times a million now. You loved the bath before but now you are a wild man in there! You splash, kick, squeal, get water all over mommy’s glasses. I loved bath time before but seeing you in there now is way funner! “Rockabye Baby” is the song that calms you down most when you’re upset still. You can stand for a really long time!

Milestones: You can sit up on your own for a bit if you’re on my lap. You tried rice cereal for the first time this month. We bought your first pair of Chucks yesterday! And your first bow tie. You’re basically a stud.

We didn’t end up going to Rosa’s for your birthday because we lost a great man yesterday, your Great Grandpa. I’m glad you got to meet him. He was such a loving man. He loved babies and I know you brought a lot of joy into his life when you visited him. He was always there for people – always serving someone. He was such a hard worker and dedicated to his family. I hope you inherit those traits from him. It’s times like these that the Gospel brings us the comfort that we need: that he’s in a better place, that he’s free from pain, that he’s with Heavenly Father, and that we’ll see him again because we are all sealed together as a family. He’s probably up in heaven watching WWF on a recliner 🙂 We love you, Grandpa.

-Little Wife Power House

>The Twilight Saga: Eclipse

>I am the proud new owner of Eclipse on blu ray! I got it in the mail yesterday so you know me and Holden had to watch it! Here he is snuggling with Santa Teddy while watching some amazing cinematography 😉

He hopes Edward & Bella make it! hehe He will hate me for this later in life.

On another note: you guys know Koda. Our neurotic, hair-brained, lovable [to some] dog. Well, I was worried about how she would take to mr. h being the center of our world and her being pushed aside a little. Turns out they love each other!! I heard Holden giggling on the floor behind me and turn to find Koda giving him kisses and he was just loving it! I tried to capture a picture of it but this is all I could get:

When I’m snuggling with Holden on the floor Koda will come and lay right next to us. It’s really sweet. Now I’m not sure this lovefest will continue once he can walk/grab her/terrorize her but for now I just think it’s the cutest thing!

Happy Friday!

-Little Wife Power House

>I can hardly believe it’s already Friday. This week has gone by SO fast! That’s what happens around the holidays though. You blink and it’s Christmas! It’s funny how that flip flops. When I was a kid it seemed like it took for-ev-er for Christmas to come around…now that my priorities have changed from solely gifts to enjoying everything about the holidays it seems to be slipping by me too quickly. Anyhow…we decided to have pizza night last night because tonight is the Ward Christmas Party [which it turns out we’re probably not going to be able to go anyways because I have to get my hours in at work] but that just means we had a fun Thursday evening!

I wanted to be lazy and order pizza this week because I’ve been SO busy. I just wanted a week off from cooking and I’ve gotten just that 🙂 Papa John’s…we love you and your yummy pizza! We would love you a lot more if you would deliver the 10 minutes to Savannah.

We got their oh.my.gosh.so.yummy garlic parmesan breadsticks too.

Now to earlier that day. Holden and I had such a fun day. He was a terror on Monday [probably my fault but I had a hard time admitting that it might be because I ate chocolate – GASP! I know…I’m a bad mom. Once in like four months is not that bad…is what I keep telling myself. Any new readers: it makes him gassy. He’s not allergic or anything] but he has been an absolute angel the rest of the week. I love being home with him. I really believe it’s what I was meant to do – be a mom. If you would have asked me if I thought that’s what I would do for the rest of my life 5 years ago I would have laughed in your face. My priorities have shifted to my beautiful family and I don’t think they could be focused on a better thing!

[woo hoo! my feet are so fun!]

[don’t take my book from me!]

[corn flake crispy treats]

Corn flake crispy treats are [as I’m sure you can guess] a twist on the traditional rice crispy treat. 2 T butter, one package of marshmallows, 6 cups corn flakes, 1/4 tsp cinnamon. So good! These are going to make an appearance at our annual Christmas Party next  week. I might like them a little more because they have a certain crunch about them.

[Dunkin Donuts]

[playing a little Mario Cart on Friday morning ain’t so bad]

Sorry for the long post but I hope everyone has a great weekend! Sallie’s bridal shower is tomorrow so look out for that post soon!

-Little Wife Power House

>need a good laugh?

>If you need a good laugh [possibly having a bad day] then you have come to the right blog. Just wait until you get to the end. I hope it makes you laugh just as hard as it made me laugh!

Today has been a good day. A really good day. I woke up, nursed H, played, put him down for a nap, worked for a few hours, grocery shopped…and this was all before NOON. Oh yeah, did I mention I fit into another pair of my pre-baby jeans?! I’m getting there slowly but surely. Here we are at the table for a little snack:

[I couldn’t get him to look at the camera. He must love me or something.]

[my snack in my cute new bowl! love target too much.]

[holden’s snack. he sucks his thumb now. so cute.]

Now I believe I promised you a good laugh so here it is:

[hahahahahah. I love you, Holden!]

We’re about to go to my sister’s to have a feast. Ham, baked beans, macaroni and cheese (the gourmet kind), and other veggies I’m sure. They treat us well 😉 Hope the picture brightened up your day a little!

-Little Wife Power House

>what holden’s been up to lately…

[as you can tell, I love tummy time pictures]

[still chewing…]

[oh hey mom! cool camera!]

Just a few pictures of what Allan & I have been up to…my camera was missing for a few days so I don’t have very many. It has been found though!

[Hawaiian pizza for Pizza Friday..mmm]

[it’s hot chocolate season! HUZZAH!]

Please share any good, warm, holiday-ish recipes you all have! I’ve been baking/cooking up a storm lately and I’m always dying to try new recipes.

-Little Wife Power House

PS I haven’t been updating my Gratitude Challenge so here it is for the last few days…short and sweet.

Day sixteen: I’m grateful for my Prius. I love it sooo much.
Day seventeen: I’m grateful for this blog. I love blogging a lot, actually. I love that it holds me accountable to writing down memories and that I can put pictures with those memories. I’m also grateful for other people’s hard work on their blogs. I find so many great ideas/recipes on them!
Day eighteen: I’m grateful for food. Me and food have had a long affair and are quite fond of each other. I especially love pizza which is why I think Pizza Fridays are the BEST!!

>Happy 4 Monthday, Holden!

>Nicknames: Bubbles, Bubba, Holdenbear
Temperament: You are really interactive now. You laugh and smile a lot when I kiss you and make fart noises [very mature of me] on your tummy. You laughed for the first time this month! You’re still a little particular but I think you’re getting better. You put a smile on everyone’s faces when they see you.
Things I Could Do Without: Lately you’ve been getting up 3+ times in the middle of the night (I think you’re hitting a growth spurt). You started to clamp down during nursing! OUCHHHHH! I tell you “NO!” and you just smile at me. Urg. You started peeing in between diaper changes again…twice today. Your skin is still having issues and I worry every day about it.
Item/Toy We Love The Most: Your alligator. I love to see you take it apart. You figured it out right away [ahem, baby genius].
Item/Toy You Love The MostThe newly discovered Pooh Bear book. It crinkles…it has teether parts…it has a handle…what’s not to love? Oh, and your hands still. You actually prefer your hands over nursing now-a-days!
Things I’m Loving Most Right Now: You hug me now when I’m holding you. You smile when I say “momma.” Your laugh. Doing mini-Superman with you, tummy time [still], cuddles. I love how you follow me with your eyes when I walk out of a room.
Things You’re Loving Most Right Now: Standing. Sitting up. “Rockabye Baby.” Rolling from your stomach to your back [multiple times a night]. Kicking in the bath. Talking [Dad had to leave a meeting we were having with the other Primary teachers because you just had so many opinions you wanted to share!]

We started Holden’s 4 Monthday Celebrato with a cranky H. I passed him off to Uncle Robert [who apparently moonlights as a baby whisperer] and his usual birthday pattern followed…

falling asleep before the party begins!

Allan took a break from his 5 day homework binge for a little family time:

H loves Daddy time!

We had burgers, fries, and pumpkin cheesecake muffins [click on that link for the recipe…it is soooo tasty! PeRfeCt for the holiday season.]

[Happy Birthday to Holden…]

Look how good he has gotten at sitting up! I’m so proud of him! We ended the night with some Mario Cart and H played with the Tesla app on my iPad…addicted already! 🙂

We always love having the Guerrero’s over to our house. We’re lucky to have such great family! I got to see my good friend, Sallie, today. I love her. She’s so much fun, so sweet, and one of my good friend’s future wife. He is lucky to have found a girl like her…and that he somehow got her 😉 JK GARRETT! We also took some family pictures this morning with Allan’s side. 18 people total! It went a lot smoother than I imagined. Everyone did exactly what the photographer asked of them so it was over very quickly! I’m excited to see them. Our little family took some pictures alone with some goofy props…hello Christmas card picture!

[sweet picture of H and grandpa]

All in all it was another successful birthday celebration. I know some of you might think it silly to celebrate monthly but I love it. It’s an excuse to get together with family, cook a yummy meal, and play games. What’s better than that?!

>The 30 Day Gratitude Challenge

I have to start the gratitude challenge with:
I’m grateful for my son.

The first picture was one of the first times I got to hold my sweet baby boy after he was born. The second picture is one of his newborn pictures that we had done 5 days after he was born. I saw this idea on my sister’s blog {My Montessori Moments – check it out if you ever need great ideas for teaching your young ones!} and she got it from another blog. I think this is such a great idea – especially with Thanksgiving coming up. I have so much to be grateful for. This 30 day challenge should be a breeze :P. The only trick will be remembering to do it every day! Our family will be reading it on Thanksgiving Day as well (thanks, Lori!). Hopefully I can get my busy husband to do it, too. Spread the word! I’d love to see this on my friends’ blogs!

-Little Wife Power House

>holden’s version of talking

>I could listen to this forever. I love listening to him talk. He sometimes even “sings” with me when I sing to him. Holden has also entered the “soprano stage” where he squeals at a high pitch over and over again. It’s kind of a game we play. He squeals, I squeal back at him, and so on. I’ll do anything to hear that high-pitched squeal because it cracks me up :P.

-Little Wife Power House

>rollin’ Holden

>Holden rolled from his belly to back for the first time at two weeks old – it was more of a fluke, really. Gravity did most of the work and he hadn’t done it again until 3 nights ago. I heard him crying and when I went in to check on him, he was on his back! I was a proud, proud momma. I was clapping and smiling and saying good job and he was proud of himself too, you could tell. He had a huge grin on his face and was just so happy. He’s been doing it pretty much non-stop since then. Every time I go in to check on him, he’s rolled onto his back. He won’t sleep on his back, mind you. It’s actually becoming kind of a problem because where he used to just cry for 5 minutes and go to sleep, he’s now rolling over. I have to go in and turn him back over so the whole process starts over. I’ve had to nurse him to sleep a lot lately which I don’t want him to get into the habit of needing that to sleep. Hmmmmm….what to do

I wanted to actually see the rolling, not just the end product so Allan and I put him on his stomach in his crib last night and BAM! He showed off for us! It was great to see how hard he was working and how strong he is. It’s the best seeing him do new things and make progress.

-Little Wife Power House

>growing up too fast…

{Holden already has a goatee! And he dyed it purple! The wild years begin…:P}

{Silly time}

I don’t feel like I have very much to write about today so I’m just going to post a few pictures. The only update I have is that Holden laughed out loud (actual laugh – not squeal) yesterday! It’s times like that I wish I had a video camera (add to wish list). It was the cutest thing ever. We have to get him to do it again since Allan was at work…I was bouncing him on my shins and laughing at him and he started laughing too!

{nom nom nom}

>Holden’s 3 Monthday, Cont.

{Holden and I had a photoshoot on his bedroom floor. I’m in most of the pictures so I’ll just post this one of his cute face!}

GiGi and Robert joined us on Thursday for dinner and cake for Holden’s 3 month + 1 day birthday :P. We had to do it a little late because Allan couldn’t get home in time on Wednesday. Just wanted to post a few quick pictures!

{Holden passed out before we even had dinner so we just took a few quick pictures and put him down for the night. This boy loves his sleep!}

-Little Wife Power House

>Happy 3 Monthday, Holden!

>I was introduced to a new blog, ThatWifeBlog, and I’m in love with yet another blog. She had this on her blog and I thought it was such a good idea. I want to remember all of the little things that make Holden wonderful (and sometimes difficult) at this age. Thank you, That Wife!

{NOTE: His feet were not as close to the flame as they appear.}

Nicknames: Emperor Holden, Boo Boo, Booger, Holden Bear
Temperament: You are so fun to be around. You smile all of the time. You still have your “emperor” moments but now-a-days they are few and far between. You are, however, a little particular. You like to be held by people {especially Mom & Dad} and in certain positions.
Things I Could Do Without: You’re still not the biggest fan of the car seat. You can make it about 10 minutes but after that you’re over it. You still wake up 1-2 times in the middle of the night to eat. Your finger nails are so sharp! Ouch! You’ve starting peeing through your diapers again (which means peeing on me) sometimes twice a day. Your sensitive skin and all of the creams/other items we have had to buy for it. {That Wife and I have a lot of the same things on this one!}
Item/Toy We Love The Most: Your teether rings. I love to see you reach for them! {They are the ONLY toy you reach for}.
Item/Toy You Love The Most: Your hands! No contest.
Things I’m Loving Most Right Now: Cuddling with you. You are such a good cuddler. I love sitting in the rocking chair with you in the evening. I also love tummy time. I put you on a blanket in your bedroom and read a story to you. Yesterday’s story was “Where The Wild Things Are.” You love to look at the pictures and listen to momma’s voice. I also really enjoy bath time and singing to you.
Things You’re Loving Most Right Now: Your hand. Plain and simple. Your first tooth is coming in (ALREADY. We always knew you were going to be ahead of the game.) and therefore you are chewing on everything. You like teething toys but nothing beats your hand. You also love “You Are My Sunshine,” pulling up to sitting position, and making people smile. You also love your vibrating bouncer. The bouncer keeps you happy the longest out of all your equipment. Oh! How could I forget the bubbles?! You make the BEST bubbles with your mouth!

You’ve made a lot of progress in the last month. You now weigh 13 lbs 7 oz (as of today). You can sit up assisted and you try to pull up on your own. You talk so much, more every day. I wish I knew what you were saying but it’s so darn cute, who cares! This last month you have learned to fall asleep on your own! That made my life so much easier. I can put you down for a nap completely awake and within 5 minutes you’ll be asleep. You are still a stomach sleeper but I don’t even worry for a second anymore. You’re a pro sleeper. We love you more than we could ever say. Our family would not be complete without you.

{You always choose your hand over toys. nom nom nom.}

We will be celebrating your big day tomorrow because Dad has to work tonight until 9:00 PM (he works so hard for our family. He left the house this morning at 6:30!) GiGi and Uncle Robert are coming over too!

-Little Wife Power House

>4:07 AM

>I know, I know…it’s 4:07 AM and I should be sleeping. I have no excuse because I’m not even nursing Holden anymore. BUT my friend Sallie’s friend Allison {who doesn’t even know me, I might add} did the sweetest thing for me and I felt inspired to re-do my blog. Allison did the new title area to my blog! Isn’t it so great! I love it. Thank you, Allison, if for some reason you wander over to my blog :P.

Oh, and I had to post pictures of Holden’s new hat! I couldn’t resist. I have to add that this was Holden’s FOURTH outfit of the evening. He spit up on two and peed all over one (through his diaper and all over his back. This boy is talented).

{Holden and Daddy}

{What a ham. He looks at the camera every time I point it at him. As long as he notices.}

And happy 10/10/10! Fun fact: Allan and I were married on 08/08/08.

-Little Wife Power House

PS. What do you guys think of the redesign?

>happy 2 monthday, holden!

>Today was a big day for my son – he turned 2 months! He’s growing bigger every day and I just can’t help but think how much I want him to stay a little baby. Too bad they have to grow up but I know the future holds fun things for our family! We had the Guerrero’s over for dinner (roast, carrots, and potatoes – yum!) and Angel Food Cake (I can’t eat chocolate due to Holden’s sensitivity to it…worst sensitivity ever!!) Angel Food Cake is so good and SO easy to make which was good since I was definitely feeling under the weather today.

He had just woken up from a cat nap so he was a little out of it. We are so lucky to have him in our lives. We grow to love him more every day!

Holden was sure loving some aunt/cousin time with Lori & JR. He was laughing up a storm! Someone was just telling me at church on Sunday that most babies this young don’t smile as much as he does. What can he say, he’s living the good life!

-Little Wife Power House

>Don’t say I didn’t warn you 🙂 I am one proud momma today! Last night we decided to try transitioning to the crib for a full night’s sleep. I had been toying with the idea for a few days and finally decided to just go for it. I was nervous because (as I told you all before) Holden sleeps on his stomach. I may have checked on him throughout the night…at least I didn’t sleep in there on the floor like I really wanted to! It was nice having our bed back but I really missed him. It’s a little early (he’ll be two months on Monday) but I really felt like he was ready. I also didn’t want him to get wise on the fact that we were in bed with him every night (he never warmed to his Arm’s Reach Co-Sleeper for some reason). He did great! He woke up once at 3:45, ate, and went right back to sleep until 8:30. What a good boy!! I, on the other hand, could not go back to sleep until 6:15. Blah. Oh well, I got to read some, take a bath, mess around online..it was kind of nice. Okay, I’m done.

Now I’m really done 🙂

-Little Wife Power House

>lots of pictures :)

>The two studliest men in my life:

He’s all smiles during tummy time! Look at that strong neck!

I just love this shirt – especially with his stylin’ diaper!

We love to go to church 🙂

-Little Wife Power House

>what a fun morning!

>We started off the morning going through our normal routine. It was sad to say goodbye to Allan after the fun three day weekend but someone’s gotta bring home the bacon, as they say. *WE MISS YOU, ALLAN!* Holden went to spa-de-la-mommy then he had to hit the gym (aka the play mat) for some tummy time:

We decided to go on a walk so I could get a workout in for the day as well! Still gotta work on losing those baby lbs! Whew – it was MUGGY out there! My glasses were fogging up…the camera lens was fogging up…we were having some problems. But nonetheless, we pushed on. It ended up being a really great walk around Savannah. We love those trails! We had to stop half way because Holden needed a major diaper change. Here is his face after the change:

I’d say that’s a happy face! Please note his double chin. I looooove it! It’s so fun being home with him. I wouldn’t trade our time together for anything in the world. We got home and he passed out immediately and that’s where we are at now. I’m excited for book club tonight with Casey and Jennifer! We’ve read Catcher in the Rye, Catching Fire, and most have read Mockingjay. I just got it Sunday evening so I’m still working on it…we’ll see if I can finish in time!

>Holden’s Blessing

We woke up and went through the normal routine – nursing, diaper change, bath time. It was actually a pretty relaxing morning. I even got to take a bath! Yay! Things got a little more frantic as we were approaching leaving time. Our goal was 12:00 noon (the blessing was at 1:00 PM twenty minutes away in Denton). My plan was to get to the church and have time to put him in what I like to call a “milk coma” before the blessing. It all worked out and we were right on schedule! What a miracle. There was one hiccup…my mommy brain completely forgot to dry clean his blessing outfit! How could I forget to do that with my ultra skin sensitive baby (another blog, another day)?! I felt terrible! But we had no other choice than to put him it. I figured it would be okay since it would only be about 30 minutes then we would change him right out of it. Boy was I wrong! His back/neck/stomach broke out and turned fire red, Poor little guy…I’m going to have to put on the hat of nurse mommy the next few days while his skin gets over these shenanigans. It was a beautiful day and we are just so thankful to have him in our lives! Holden looked like an angel. Not just “he looks so sweet” (although he did) but like a little spirit who was visiting us from heaven (see below).
